UPDATE: Only the HP Pro Slate 8 uses Corning Gorilla Glass 4. The HP Pro Slate 12 comes with Corning Concore Glass.
HP today announced a new range of tablet hardware, including a big ol’ slate and a pen to help you write on all of them.
The HP Pro Slate 12 and HP Pro Slate 8 are Android 4.4 tablets with 12.3-inch and 7.9-inch screens with Gorilla Glass 4. They’ve both got Snapdragon 800 processors, 2GB of RAM, 4:3 aspect ratios, and bodies that measure less than 8mm thick. The big difference between the two, besides their screen sizes, is their resolutions: the Pro Slate 12 is 1600x1200, while the Pro Slate 8 is 2048x1536. Pricing for the two is set at $569 for the Pro Slate 12 and $449 for the Pro Slate 8.
Included with both tablets is the HP Duet Pen, a writing tool that’ll let you write on paper or another surface and have your scribbles show up on your Pro Slate. It does this using Qualcomm’s Snapdragon digital pen technology, which utilizes ultrasound transmitters to emit the pen’s position and axis of rotation that’s then picked up by microphones in the pen to triangulate its position
Another Android-powered device announced by HP today is the Pro Slate 10 EE. It’s got a 10.1-inch 1280x800 display, 1GB of RAM, a 1.33GHz Intel Atom processor, and a body that’s IP-52 rated for resistance to dust and moisture. The Pro Slate 10 EE has a slot for a stylus and an optional keyboard base. HP also has a Windows version of this device called the HP Pro Tablet 10 EE.
HP’s had some interesting Android hardware in the past, including the HP SlateBook laptop that runs Android 4.3, and this 12-inch Pro Slate 12 is another such product. Some folks might lament the relatively low screen resolution, but huge tablets like this one aren’t exactly common in the world of mobile, so it might be worth a look if you’re interested in a huge Android slate, especially with its included HP Duet Pen.
