Galaxy S5 Android Lollipop update coming to the U.S. as early as next week

Proud (or otherwise) owners of the Samsung Galaxy S5 are lucky enough to be among the first ones with Samsung phones to get Android 5.0 Lollipop on a carrier device. The update has started rolling out about a week ago, and people all over the world, except in America, are reporting that the OTA is hitting their phones. Good for you! It seems that only European and some Asian countries are getting the Galaxy S5 Android Lollipop update as of yet, but that means that the U.S. should follow soon.
Android 5.0 Lollipop for the Galaxy S5 will come with TouchWiz, so you won’t be having a stock Android experience, unless you have a GPe device. While many were hoping Samsung would overhaul TouchWiz and come out with a UI that isn’t sluggish or overcompensating for something (I wonder what). Rumors say that once the Galaxy S6 is ready to be launched, a new version of TouchWiz might come along. That’s one scenario, as others are saying Samsung’s own Iconic UX could be the next user interface we should be rooting for.
Even though some handsets in Samsung’s line-up are readying themselves for Android 5.0.1 Lollipop (Galaxy S4), Galaxy S5 owners will be disappointed to hear that those who have already received the update have only version 5.0, which might have some bugs and issues on some phones. Don’t fret! It’s just time! Techies should be patient, especially since you have some ROM options out there if you’re really jonesing for Lollipop.
Don’t believe us, though, as we’re not 100 % sure our estimation is right. Disclaimer out of the way, we think that the U.S. should be getting the Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 Lollipop update starting tomorrow. You know, all that new week, new beginning stuff. Or was it with regards to a new year? In any case, we don’t see why the rollout wouldn’t migrate to the U.S. at this point, as people in Spain, Hong Kong, Poland, Russia and the U.K are all enjoying Lollipop on their Galaxy S5 units. With the staggered rollout and Google already pushing Android 5.0.2 Lollipop to Nexus devices, we can be sure that the hype will go on. By the time we reach Android 5.1, everybody will be tired of checking for updates and reading news about suppositions of an update release date. Mark my words!
Alas, Android 5.0 Lollipop (and TouchWiz) for the Galaxy S5 come with the Material Design everybody was waiting for, and the update weighs in at about 500 MB. The update will ensure that you can benefit from redesigned apps, as well as a few nifty features like a revamped notifications system, an improved fingerprint sensor, MirrorLink support, ART and a redesigned lockscreen. You will have to ensure that you’ve got a full battery before proceeding to install the update. You can get the Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 Lollipop update through Kies 3, if the OTA hasn’t arrived yet. Be sure to check your model number and correlate with the release details, as flashing an incorrect software update might brick your phone. We’re looking forward to seeing Android 5.0 Lollipop in the U.S. on Galaxy S5 flagships, so hurry it up Samsung, people are getting impatient.
